Job Competition May 6 2013 - Summer School/Community Coordinator (Worldview)

My name is Damian, an education student at the University of Alberta. I am interested in the school and community worldview coordinator position, but my educational background and experience would apply nearly as well to the other education-related jobs. My particular interests are in English (especially literacy ability), Social Studies and students with disabilities and development delays. There is already an extensive social studies network with lots of good information, and I would like to create a corresponding one for English with overviews for students, parents and other interested parties to know what to expect from Alberta's English classrooms. I would also include information on general English literacy milestones - in other words, what literacy skill level is taught and/or internalized at what grade level. Additionally, I am also very interested in setting up a new blog network on disabilities in the classroom. Today's inclusive education model means more and more students with disabilities or delays are integrated in regular classrooms, and it is critical for students, parents and teachers to be aware of what any given disability requires in terms of accommodations or curriculum adaptions. As a student with a disability myself, I have been immersed in this topic most of my life and want to share my knowledge reinforced with outside resources with others.
